HIIT, A Moms Answer to Getting Results in Less Time.

"I don't have time."
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I would be rich! Wouldn’t you agree, very few things actually give you time back? High intensity interval training, known as HIIT has done this for me. With my daughter and business I can't spend hours at the gym every day, so HIIT has been my answer to staying in shape.
This link will give you an idea of what HIIT is, and how to incorporate it into your training. Whatever your level, adding this to your workouts will give you results in less time. And, as a busy mom I know you could use more of that.

Have you done HIIT? Do you think HIIT works or is it the latest fad?
If you haven't tried it, are you willing to?

  1. It definitely works. I used to run and run and run, but when baby #2 came, I really had to bust a move and make the most of my gym time. It helped me lose the baby weight faster and improved my running times as well! I do 800 meter intervals on the treadmill w/ 400 meter rest in between for about a half hour or so. I'l also use the interval/speed training profile on the stairmill- that will make you SWEAT!!!

  2. I too work full time and have a young son. I do not have hours to spend away from him. From a guys perspective HIIT is the only way I train. I do all my training like this including lifting. I incorporate a type of HIIT training called Tabata training (20 sec of full speed activity, 10 secs full rest - repeat 8 times) for everything - sprints, curls, squats, plyos, etc... I then stumble back to the locker room!

  4. I love to run, and love anything connected to running, so HIIT training is something that is beneficial to me when I want to mix up my training. I first became acquainted with interval training with the book Body for Life, but took some of what I learned in that book and branched it into other areas of my fitness. I try and take a little something from everyone in fitness. It's always fun to hear what others do.

No time? Everyone needs to make time. Not having time is a copout. I am not a mom, so I can't relate to midnight feedings, however as a retired babysitter, I can say it was always a blast to take a baby strolling. The little ones I watched always loved seeing birds or squirrels or even going to duckponds. I got a workout while at work, and they got a scenic tour! Even if it's only 15 minutes a day, it's something if you ask me. I tell my busy friends to set the alarm and go before anyone else gets up and go with it. You suggestion Kim to do sprints and stuff in your backyard while your daughter is playing is an excellent example.

Finding balance is the hardest part with anything. With work, family, friends and fitness, finding the balance is something I really have towards.

    Thanks for your blog:)

  5. I'm loving the feedback, thank you! HIIT has really helped me, and I'm glad to hear it has helped you too. We're all busy, but still want to be fit! Sounds like we're all willing to do what it takes:)
Balance is key Beth, you are right on with that one. People don't know this, but I opted to workout at home due to time constraints. It's really hard at times to stay motivated, but when you want something bad enough you'll make it happen!
Thank you for supporting the blog!

    Kim

  6. Loving the blog, I also have a question to ask. I have 2 small children so I go to the gym at 5am and have to fit both cardio and weights into my time, does it matter what time of day you do cardio? I've been told it has to be done first thing to be effective but I really am pushed for time some mornings and know I could do my cardio later in the day without using the gym. Any help welcome!! Thanks :0)

  7. It all started with fat-burning coffee (yes, it's actually healthy for you and DOES work!). After only a few days, I had less brain fog and more energy. With those two things in place, it was WAY easier to make other changes - healthier choices when it comes to food, and the ability to "find time" where I once thought I had none. It wasn't a matter of not having time, time seemed illusive because I no longer had energy. VERY important distinction!

  8. NJ and multilevelmommy,

I wouldn't worry about when you get your cardio in. The fact that you are is what's important.
It's also a great idea to do cardio interval training between sets with weights for additional calorie burn. And, as multilevelmommy said coffee helps!
